It’s a bank holiday this weekend and the weather forecast is looking promising – keep thinking sunny thoughts everyone! 🌞
We have found 5 low cost (or even FREE) things to do this bank holiday to keep the whole family entertained!
On Saturday 28th there are FREE fairground rides and a climbing wall from 2pm-8pm and live music starts from 7pm with a boyband, Paloma Faith and ABBA tribute act on!
The free rides and climbing wall continue on Sunday 29th from 10am -3pm alongside the Little Bird Artisan Market – food stalls, gifts, homeware and so much more all from lovely local independent traders.
Our lovely friends at Harrogate Mumbler have organises another super trail which is running throughout the Summer holidays! You can do it all in one go, or over a few trips and there is a prize for everyone who completes it Read more about the trail and download your trail sheets here.
Home to some of our favourite local charities and community organisations, at Ripon Walled Gardens you can explore the orchard, gardens and woodland for free. There is a lovely little potting shed play area for little ones and some fun looking trails for older children to complete. While you are there you can visit the plant shop, gift shop and outdoor café for refreshments!
Entry to Brimham Rocks is free although you will need to pay for using the car park (Free for National Trust members, or £6 for 4 hours/£9 all day). There are loads of things to explore and you could even complete our Things to spot outdoors activity sheet while you are there! Please note that the car park has been reaching capacity this summer so arrive early for the best chances of getting a space! They ask you not to park on the road as it can obstruct emergency vehicles so maybe have a plan B ready if they are full! This happened to us last weekend so we carried on to Birchfield Farm – not free but still a great day out!
You could also head for Studley Royal – similar parking fees and loads of room to explore! There is also a scavenger hunt at Studley Royal this weekend which has been organised by Ripon Together as part of their Summer of Play!
There is a £5 fee (per person) for admission to the inflatables, go karts and maize maze, but use of the play area and sandpit around the ice cream parlour are completely free. Brymor also does amazing ice-cream so its worth a visit for this alone (I can personally recommend the black cherry whim wham!)
Birds, walking and wildlife! Follow the path through the reserve and back. The main carpark is open from 9am to 5pm except on Race Days (that means it is closed on Monday 30th August!) however the nature reserve is still open and can be accessed on foot or by parking in Littlethorpe and accessing the reserve via Renton’s Bridge. The main carpark is free to use for members of Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. Non-members are asked for a donation for parking.
