Independent Domestic Abuse Services (IDAS) offer non-judgmental, practical and emotional support to anyone affected by domestic abuse, sexual violence or sexual abuse in York, North Yorkshire and Barnsley. Our experienced workers will listen and explain the options available, including providing support through the criminal and civil justice system. We can also help to arrange emergency accommodation for people fleeing domestic abuse. We keep people safe and support them to make their own decisions.

NCT Shared Experiences Support Line

The NCT Shared Experiences Support Line provides support to parents who are experiencing specific difficulties, problems, worries or other issues during pregnancy, birth and early parenthood by putting them in touch with someone who personally understands.

If you or someone you know needs the support of the Shared Experiences support line, call 0300 330 0700 on Monday – Friday from 9am – 7pm. You can leave a message outside of these hours and someone will call you back.

When you call the Shared Experiences support line, our enquiries team will put you in touch with a volunteer who has gone through a similar experience and is able to offer understanding and a listening ear. Callers are also given details of other relevant charities or support organisations who may be able to help.

North Yorkshire Horizons is an integrated drug and alcohol recovery service for North Yorkshire.

Our aim is to help as many people as possible to recover from and be free from drug and alcohol dependency.

Social Care – Out Of Hours Support

The team carries out urgent assessments of adults, young people and children and solves more than 90 per cent of cases by giving telephone advice.

Situations where the team will become involved to ensure safety include those where:

  • There are serious child protection and welfare concerns (for example if you think a child is being ill-treated or neglected);
  • Urgent assistance and advice is required by families and/or carers;
  • Older people are at risk;
  • We receive a request for a Mental Health Act assessment; or
  • People who are vulnerable because of a disability who need assistance.
