DISCOVER THE SIGHTS AND SOUNDS OF YOUR RIPON

Discover your Ripon on this free family-friendly day full of activities for all ages.

This is the 9 th year of Sights and Sounds of Ripon which involves partners from the Public, Private and Voluntary Sector coming together to give Ripon residents a chance to connect with their city, and to enjoy all the sights and sounds Ripon offers in a fun and free and fabulous day.

The event is growing year by year and is now a popular date in everyone’s calendar. More local groups are getting involved and they all work hard to put on an exciting programme of events and activities. Bell ringers will open the event at 11am at the Ripon Cathedral, with an official opening by The Dean of Ripon, followed by the Ripon City Morris Dancers & Betty Lupton’s Ladle Laikers.

The venues this year are:

Ripon Workhouse Museum & Garden
Prison & Police Museum and Courthouse Museum
Ripon Library
Ripon Town Hall and Market Square
Ripon Cathedral

By following the trail around the venues, visitors will meet a wide range of local groups and charities including:

Ripon YMCA, Dementia Forward, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Ripon Fire and Rescue Service, Age UK, Harrogate and Ripon CVS, North Yorkshire Youth, THE LOCAL LOTTO for the Harrogate district

Here’s a flavour of what’s on offer…

Ripon Cathedral: Sights and Sounds will open when you hear the cathedral bells ring out at 11am when the Dean of Ripon will officially open the event. Throughout the day at the cathedral there will be Morris Dancing, choirs, displays by many local community and voluntary organisations, a pop-up cafe, Brickworks Lego workshop and family craft workshop for all ages. There’s also be two tours of the cathedral tower (sorry, no under 7s).

Ripon Library : Come to Ripon Library for a range of activities from with Ripon Library and North Yorkshire Youth. ‘Build Ripon’ with Jay Stelling and develop your digital skills, Sights & Sounds Treasure Hunt, family storytime, explore plastic free Ripon and discover your waste responsibilities.

Ripon Museums: open 11:00 am-4 pm, free entry to all museums all day with proof of Ripon address. In the Workhouse Museum, there’s a pop-up café, a wide range of local groups including The National Trust, Squigglers Art Club; Morris Dancing, Victorian activities. Over in the Courthouse Museum, at 1pm take part in a Justices Courtroom Trial. In the Prison & Police Museum, there will be guided tours, object handling and Prisoners On Prisoners art installation.

In the Market Square meet the emergency services, join the Ripon Ghost Walk, have a guided walk around our city and visit the Town Hall for the Silverware Talks.
