We love pancake day in our house! I’m all about the savoury fillings but the rest of the family like the traditional lemon and sugar ones! We’ve been practicing and this is by far the best, and easiest recipe we’ve come across! We’ve listed some of our favourite fillings too!

Mumbler’s top 5 pancake day ideas:
- Get the kids involved! Give them the recipe, scales and ingredients and help them make their own pancake mixture! You could even film them cooking show style!
- Decorate place mats – Using A3 paper or even better you can pick up disposable paper table clothes from most supermarkets. Have them decorate an entire table cloth for the pancake feast!
- Design your pancake – for this one you just need come circles of paper and the ingredients available! Your children can design exactly what they want on on their pancakes, how much they want and where they want it! This is a double whammy of entertainment as they attempt to follow their designs to create their perfect pancake!
- Read/watch/listen to the traditional tale – The Runaway Pancake. You can find versions of it on Youtube!
- Pancake Race – In the absence of Ripon’s traditional pancake day race on Kirkgate, hold your own in your garden or street! Everyone in the family can get involved and the winner could get an extra pancake to eat as their prize!
Enjoy everyone! Now to decide what to give up for lent…
